Tamia Duke

“I am Tamia Duke, a 4th-year Fashion & Retail Studies student at the Ohio State University. My hometown is Las Vegas, Nevada. Ohio State was one of my dream schools because of its amazing reputation with academics, but I was also born into a family of Buckeye fans, so I’ve been a Buckeye my whole life. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a fashion designer, so I chose to pursue this major. I’m happy with my decision; all my classes have reaffirmed my decision and made me love fashion more. It is essential for me to have a sense of community since I’m far from home, and I get that being here. I’m glad there are a lot of clubs that I’ve chosen to be part of that also help with a sense of community as a black student. I plan to continue pursuing a career in the fashion industry as a designer and wardrobe stylist.”

“I connect with and support fellow students and also volunteer with young people because I understand the importance of unity and want to uplift my community. I also understand the importance of having someone who looks like you succeed in their goals, and I want to reflect that for young Black students. I do this by shining daily through excellence in my academic and professional work.”
