What does anti-racist research in education look like? A discussion on equity-based research designs

February 18, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Dr. Mitsu Narui

Crane Center Director of Research

Dr. Kenyona Walker

Research Specialist at the Center on Education and Training for Employment (CETE)

Researchers have long been taught the very specific “how to” of research design, yet traditional methods too often fail to center on anti-racist research. At the core of anti-racist research design should be an acknowledgement of the impacts of current policies and practices and the ways in which they uphold systemic racism. Led by Dr. Narui, a critical race educator, and Dr. Walker, co-leader of CETE’s racial equity, diversity and inclusion initiative, the purpose of this session is to provide an introduction to critical race theory and anti-racist research design in education. Participants will begin to conceptualize how to design studies that are centered in an anti-racist research framework.
