How It Works

Great Leaders Make
All The Difference

You can be confident that BRIGHT will prepare you for the toughest job you will ever love.

There are seven primary aspects to the Fellowship:

1. Executive MBA Degree

All Fellows earn an internationally recognized Executive MBA – fully paid for by BRIGHT. This degree program has been specially tailored for BRIGHT Fellows. Classes meet on campus monthly for two to five days, depending on the academic school year.

2. Leadership Residency

All Fellows are placed in an Ohio public school for an intensive, yearlong in-building Leadership Residency experience. Fellows work and learn under the mentorship of an accomplished school principal. You will become part of the building’s leadership team to be mentored, coached, advised, and assessed by the school district as part of your Fellowship requirements.

3. Individual Leadership Coaching

All Fellows will receive individualized leadership coaching from a highly accomplished principal coach. You will meet with your leadership coach several hours per month to talk through problems, discuss ideas, ask questions, and receive feedback.

4. Student-Teaching Preparation

As part of the Leadership Residency Fellows will learn and student-teach under the tutelage of a master teacher. You will receive more than 100 hours of teaching training throughout the course of your Leadership Residency. (*Fellows will ample professional K-12 teaching experience may forgo some – but not all – of the student-teaching preparation.)

5. Stipend

All Fellows will also receive a modest monthly stipend. The cost of all coursework, course materials (textbooks), coaching and residency placement is covered by BRIGHT. There are no direct costs associated with this fellowship.

6. Principal Licensure

When you have completed your Leadership Residency and MBA degree requirements, you will be fully certified by BRIGHT to serve as a building principal and awarded a K-12 Administrative License by the Ohio Department of Education.

7. Post Fellowship Agreement

To complete your responsibilities as a BRIGHT Fellow, directly after graduating from the Fellowship, you will serve a minimum of three years as an educational administrator and leader of an underserved public school or school district in Ohio.
