Introduction

Be the Change!: Implicit and Institutional Bias is an online professional development course centered on race, racial equity, and social justice for education professionals.  This course is designed for small groups to complete independently and requires a group lead to first go through facilitator training. For more information on enrolling your group, contact Christine Fagan at Fagan.88@osu.edu.

Course Structure

There are two versions of the course focused on various education contexts: K-12 and Higher Education.. Interested groups will select the version that best aligns with its student population.

Each course is organized into six, two-part sessions—Part 1 is a self-paced online component and Part 2 is an interactive group discussion led by the facilitator. In other words, each of 6 sessions has 2 parts—one asynchronous and one synchronous, led by a facilitator.

Course Creation

Be the Change!: Implicit and Institutional Bias was originally adapted from the Kirwan Institute’s Implicit Bias Course. The EHE adaptation was led by  Nicole Carter Luthy, Ph.D., Chief of Staff and Director of Strategic Operations and Carlotta Penn, Ph.D., Senior Director of Community Partnerships, Office of Engagement, Discovery, and Global Education (EDGE).
