In commemoration of National Arab American Heritage Month, the College of Education and Human Ecology joins the nation in celebrating Arab American heritage and culture and paying tribute to the contributions of Arab Americans and Arabic-speaking Americans. Our college is rich in diversity of people and ideas, and this month, we highlight one of our community members who is of Arab American heritage and contributes daily to the excellence of our college and wider community.
Dr. Manal Habbal
Faculty/ IELP, Teaching and Learning
Dr. Manal Habbal, a Lebanese American, is a lecturer in the Intercultural English Language Programs (IELP), where she teaches Academic English Writing. Dr. Habbal attended Ohio State University as an undergraduate student many years ago and later completed a Ph.D. in Foreign, Second, and Multilingual Language Education. She joined the ESL Program (now IELP) in 2011 and has since been teaching undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral Academic English writing courses. In addition to teaching at Ohio State, Dr. Habbal has taught at Rutgers University, NJ, and the Lebanese International University (LIU), Lebanon. Traveling and moving to the United States at an early age has helped shape Dr. Habbal’s multicultural personality and sparked her interest in teaching international students and helping them adapt to their new environment. She truly enjoys watching students grow, adapt, and become passionate Buckeyes.
